The Thirteenth Month: Portraits of Sea Nomads is a literary-anthropological travelogue based on the author’s years of field research. Through ethnographic stories of contemporary sea nomads and travel writings from the coasts of the Eastern Mediterranean, the book combines popular humanities, literary portraits, and anthropological themes. Alongside diverse life stories, it describes the spaces of ports, bays, and the sea as temporary homes for people living in constant motion, exploring the relationship between community, space, and time. The central theme of the book is the retreat into the “thirteenth month”. A space of silence, rest, and reflection on the transience of life.


The book was originally published in Slovenian, while this Croatian version of the book uses different photography and layout design.

The client was presented with three distinct photography directions. The first one was inspired by the mezzotint printing technique, another simulated analogue double-exposure photography, and the last one drew inspiration from traditional painting and soft brushstrokes. The client chose the third photography direction, and the secondary colour was extracted from it. The colour was used throughout the book to subdue specific text elements.
